Overview

Glasgow and Clyde valley

Stylish and elegant, Scotland’s largest city is a thriving hub filled with beautiful architecture, art galleries and museums, world-class attractions and exciting shopping opportunities.

This UNESCO City of Music regularly hosts events from classical concerts to gigs by modern artists. There are also a wide range of vibrant theatres and bars.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh is a famed artist and architect from Glasgow and you can follow a trail to explore his works? Visit the Glasgow School of Art designed by Mackintosh, head to the Hunterian Art Gallery where you will find The Mackintosh House and relax at The Willow Tea Rooms to sip tea as they did 100 years ago. Round things off by climbing The Lighthouse and discover a panoramic view across the city rooftops.

Glaswegians are very style conscious and there are many exclusive little boutiques to discover, especially in the Merchant City, one of the oldest quarters of Glasgow which has been home to monks and merchants for centuries. You should also take the opportunity to enjoy retail therapy on the Style Mile  - a square mile of inspirational shopping, cafes and restaurants.

Travel in any direction outside the city boundaries and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the variety on offer in the Clyde Valley. Discover beauty spots less than an hour from Glasgow, with lush valleys, magnificent estates, historical attractions and country parks just waiting to be discovered. The Falls of Clyde Wildlife Reserve is perfect for a riverside walk to see magnificent waterfalls as well as more than 100 species of bird and resident otters.

Sample a dram of Scotland’s national drink at Glengoyne Distillery, which can be found in a beautiful wooded valley, north of Glasgow and near Loch Lomond. Visitors are always amazed by the breathtaking scenery, and the award-winning distillery offers a variety of tempting tours and tastings.
