Overview

Ayrshire and Arran

Discover this rural idyll, located less than an hour south west of Glasgow. Ayrshire offers the ideal escape with fantastic views, a majestic coastline, a huge variety of outdoor activities and a rich history. Explore 80 miles of unspoilt coastline, the marine gateway to much of the west coast of Scotland.

Often referred to as Scotland’s golf coast, Ayrshire is the birthplace of the Open Championship. Today, it is not only home to the iconic world-class golf resort at Turnberry, but also Royal Troon, known as one of the finest championship courses available. You’ll be sure to recognize the famous 9th hole at Turnberry which overlooks the lighthouse; one of the most photographed golf holes in the world.

Robert Burns, author of Auld Lang Syne, was born and raised in Ayrshire. There are a variety of excellent attractions throughout the region relating to the life and work of Scotland’s National Bard, such as the recently opened Robert Burns Birthplace Museum where you can see many landmarks that feature in some of his most famous poems.

Isle of Arran
Only a short ferry journey from Ayrshire separates you from experiencing life on the stunning Isle of Arran. The arts are hugely popular on Arran and music is celebrated widely and the local Arran cuisine is not to be missed.

For the more active, the Isle of Arran has earned a reputation as something of a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. From paragliding to golf, walking and cycling, there is plenty here to keep you entertained.
