Whatever your connection with Scotland - family roots, a passion for golf, a love of whisky or just an affinity with the warm and friendly Scots, come visit us in 2009 and join a year-round celebration of our unique culture and all Scotland has excelled in.
2009 is the 250th birth anniversary of Scotland's most famous son, poet Robert (‘Rabbie’) Burns. And this landmark event inspired the creation of Homecoming Scotland in 2009 to celebrate Scotland as the Home of Your Ancestors, the Home of Golf, the Home of Whisky and of course the Home of Burns.
Homecoming Scotland promises an amazing program of over 100 events, festivals and activities throughout the year. For golfers, there's the British Open Championship at Turnberry in July; for those with Scots roots there The Gathering, the largest ever clan gathering in Edinburgh in July, and Highland Homecoming in October celebrating the way Scots have shaped countries and communities around the world; for whisky lovers there's Whisky Month in May including the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival and the Isle of Barra Whisky Galore Festival in September; and for Burns aficionados there's Burns 250th Anniversary Weekend including Burns-themed events at Celtic Connections in January and Ayrshire's uproarious Burns an' a’ That Festival in May.
With these and so many more cultural events taking place all over Scotland, make sure you visit Scotland in 2009 and celebrate our world-changing past, vibrant present and inspiring future.
